Community Holiness Church of God, Inc.

"The Beginning"

Was founded in the late fall of 1978 by Elder Edwin Taylor. The total membership then was three plus the Pastor. In 1978, seventeen people joined him in worship. Those seventeen members worked, sacrificed, and helped Elder Taylor fulfill his dream of building a church located at present building. When the church was established in 1978, there was the Deacon Board and one choir. In the early part of 1982, they moved into the present building although it was not complete on the inside.

When the founder Elder Edwin Taylor passed in 1988, Elder Elsie Gaines was voted in as Pastor of the church. When Elder Gaines resigned in January 1992, Assistant Pastor Angeline Sumpter became acting Pastor. In October 1992, she was voted in as Pastor of the church. Today six of the original seventeen founding members still attend.

There have been several ministries and auxiliaries established within the church, some are still current, and some are not: Adult Choir, Spiritual Ensemble Choir, Miracle Workers Choir, The New Generation Group, The Holy Brothers Men Group. A Light Shines in the Prison Ministry and radio ministry, Missionary Board (this board ministers throughout the piedmont, feeding the less fortunate a delivering the word), Street Ministry, Youth Ministry: YPHA, YPED, YCIA, God’s Unit Step Team, Girls of Grace and A Little Inspiration dance teams, Armor Bearer’s Ministry, Usher Board, Mother’s Board, Men’s Ministry, Couple’s Ministry, Disciples of Praise Dance Ministry and Board of Trustees.

In 2006 we established a community and missions center located at our Love Center building at 3980 North Liberty that is also home to our Love Community Development Non-profit Corporation where we serve the community through various programs. We also lease out this building to other churches in need of a facility, small businesses and other organizations which are an added source of income for us.

We've come this far by faith leaning on the Lord,

trusting in His holy word,

He never failed me yet,

oh' can't turn around,

we’ve come this far by faith!
